About us

There can be no successful event without volunteers. There can be no good volunteers without a culture of volunteering.

The Sport-Önként Association is committed to shaping, developing, and improving volunteer culture in Hungary. The association’s leaders believe that with volunteers who return time and again, they can build a vibrant, well-functioning, mutually supportive community that can improve human relationships and bridge the gap between generations. Moreover, these communities accumulate ever-greater event-organizing knowledge and experience, so by working as a team, they can be of much greater assistance to competition organizers as well.

Many people say: Work for free? No way! But volunteers say: Work for the experience? Yes!

Unforgettable moments, lifelong friendships, and a wealth of mutual knowledge exchange—that’s what time spent working at a world championship or event offers. People who, donning volunteer T-shirts, bring diverse knowledge, experience, emotional worlds, and community behaviors, then unite them for a common goal.

University students, college students, retirees, engineers, lawyers, marketing and communications professionals, teachers, coaches, entrepreneurs, hospitality workers, travelers, high school students, journalists, interns, doctors, nurses, insurance agents, bankers, event planners, and many others are hidden beneath their uniforms. At first glance, however, they are all alike in one respect. They share a desire to help others through their work. Meanwhile, they themselves are enriched with experiences, knowledge, opportunities, and connections.

Volunteers make up the largest group of participants at events. They constitute the bulk of the human resources, capable of moving mountains when they are motivated, recognized, and enthusiastic. Their motivation is individual, but their goal is shared.

At each event, volunteers serve as the link between organizers, athletes, and fans.

If you sign up as a volunteer with Sport-Önként, you’ll get to know the behind-the-scenes workings of a sporting event, see what goes on behind the scenes, try your hand at various tasks, gain valuable experience, and meet interesting people.

By registering as a volunteer with Sport-Önként, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for all their events and be automatically notified of new opportunities. You won’t have to fill out application forms over and over again; your registration will make the application process easier. You can try your hand at various areas, gradually move forward, and, last but not least, become part of a community.

If an event doesn’t interest you, simply ignore it—but those who are happy to attend smaller events will have an advantage when it comes to forming teams for major international competitions.

What you can definitely count on when working with us: a fun group, a great atmosphere, new challenges, and, of course, work.

We provide documentation for community service and internships.

What we look for: reliability, diligence, perseverance, and openness

Advantage: language skills

Those who have already chosen us:

“We work with Sport-Önként at all our major events because they consistently provide a service that fills a gap in the Hungarian sports scene, and they do so with outstanding quality. The volunteers they provide have always performed their duties reliably and competently, under professional supervision, allowing us to redirect the resources that would otherwise be spent on this within the federation to other organizational tasks for the events” – András Novák, Secretary General of the Hungarian Water Polo Federation (2018)

“Over the past five years, the Hungarian Water Polo Federation has organized six major international youth and adult competitions with the effective assistance of Sport-Önként. I am certain that nowadays, a professionally organized event cannot be successful without enthusiastic, smiling, and helpful volunteers” – Dénes Kemény, President of the MVLSZ (2017)

“For nearly thirty years, I have been attending smaller and larger international sporting events in various parts of the world, ranging from age-group national team competitions through European and world championships all the way to the Olympics. Anyone who has ever heard a closing speech at any of these events knows that without volunteers, ‘nothing gets done.’ Sport-Önként was the first in Hungary to recognize this importance, and today it offers solutions through a refined system. Their experience is reassuring, as they arrive with virtually ready-made teams and can manage even larger groups regardless of the sport. Their humble attitude and helpfulness are undoubtedly exemplary and enviable. “For me, it’s unimaginable that we would embark on any of our events without seeking their opinion!” – Márton Gyulai, member of the European Athletics Association (2018)

The philosophy of Sport-Önként’s leaders:
Dávid Biró: If you only focus on yourself, you’ll have problems; if you focus on others, you’ll have a mission. (Buddhist saying)
Krisztina Deák: Let sport be a tool for you to learn many things about the world that lies beyond the visible world. (András Balczó)
Dóra Albert: We are here to contribute something to this world. Otherwise, why would we be here? – (Steve Jobs)
